BRIGADIER GENERAL MAXWELL OBUBA MANTEY

Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey was appointed by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the President of the Republic of Ghana to bring a rare blend of operational leadership, intelligence expertise and international security experience to the leadership of Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).

Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey is a distinguished senior officer of the Ghana Armed Forces with over 30 years of exemplary service in military leadership, international peacekeeping, and strategic security operations. His last portfolio before being appointed as the Director General of the Narcotics Control Commission was the Military Adviser to the Chief of Staff at the Presidency of Ghana where he provided expert guidance on operational, administrative, and security matters at the highest levels of government.

Throughout his career, Brigadier General Mantey has held pivotal command and staff appointments, both in Ghana and abroad. These include roles such as Deputy Support Services Commander, Chief Coordinator at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), and Force Chief of Operations with the United Nations-African Union Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID). His key competent and skills is reflected in the numerus contributions in mission planning, resource management, intelligence coordination, and multinational operational support.

As an expert in civil-military cooperation, crisis management, and peace operations, Brigadier General Mantey has served in several UN missions, including in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Liberia (ECOMOG), Western Sahara (MINURSO), and Côte d’Ivoire (ONUCI). His work has consistently strengthened global security frameworks and advanced Ghana’s reputation in international peacekeeping.

He holds a Master of Arts in International Affairs from the University of Ghana, along with multiple professional certifications from renowned institutions such as Cranfield University (UK), the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, and the Canadian Military Training Assistance Programme.

Brigadier General Mantey is widely respected for his integrity, strategic foresight, and unwavering dedication to peace, security, and the professional development of military institutions.

His proven ability to foster inter-agency collaboration, optimise resources and lead intelligence-driven operations will position NACOC to effectively combat transnational drug crimes.
