North East Regional Command Embarks on Sensitisation Drive at Sakogu
The North East Regional Command, as part of its outreach drive, has engaged community members of Sakogu in a direct sensitisation programme on the dangers of illicit drug abuse and its effects.
The scope of the sensitisation covers patterns and drivers of substance abuse on the human body and the consequences it brings to society in general.
The exercise, which was carried out on Thursday, 17 September 2026, was also used to admonish participants to stay away from engaging in drug use.
The engagement provided a platform for open discussions on the cave of guilt and shame concealed by the fear of stigma, isolating people suffering from substance use disorders in seeking help or intervention.
The NACOC team used the occasion to call for deeper collaboration between participants and the Commission, given the issues related to illicit trade, which poses a major threat to the nation through its links to other transnational crimes.
NACOC’s engagement marked the beginning of strengthening surveillance operations, conducting snap checks, search operations and extending the Commission’s demand reduction activities to other adjoining towns and villages within our jurisdiction.
The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its resolve to engage key stakeholders across all sectors in fighting the menace of substance abuse.
The team distributed educational materials to some community members and advocated that they help share this essential knowledge with family members and close associates.
